Q: Do you have to follow concrescentist ideas or be a concrescentist to join the Concrescentism movement?
A: Not necessarily, although we would expect that at least a portion of your work would in some way reflect or express the ideals of Concrescentism. Like other artistic movements from the past, we believe that art is a living medium and as such must be allowed the freedom to grow in unforeseen ways. We feel that an overly narrow view will stifle creativity and limit this movement. On the other hand, we assume that those who want to associate probably, to some degree, share our outlook or vision.
Q: Do you have to be an artist or designer to join the Concrescentism movement?
A: By no means! We welcome other types of artists and anyone who is interested in the principles, ideals, and the movement in general, as full associates. We feel any art movement benefits and extends its vision through diversification.
Q: Does it cost anything to join – are there dues?
A: There is a nominal fee of $10 a year to partially cover administrative costs and to help ensure sincerity on the part of those who join. Those who associate as artists or designers are able to post on the bulletin board, join discussions in the chat room, and link to their own sites through: www.concrescentism.org
Q: How did Concrescentism begin as a movement?
A: Concrescentism began when Eric Helín-Hultquist began to systematically analyze his own work in an attempt to create a detailed artist's statement. He realized that he was instinctively following a complex process in order to evolve original forms that even he himself had been unaware of. He wrote a position paper to explain his approach: The Dynamics of Concrescentism and a movement began to converge around his approach.
